Nearly half way there

Thanks again to everyone who made it out to the garden yesterday and it was great to see some new faces (plus some old friends we haven't seen for a while). We managed to get the beds formed in half of the garden space and most of the paths mulched before the rain came. We still have a way to go with the plumbing and haven't started to lay out the irrigation system, although we have most of the parts now, so we will hopefully make some progress on that before the next work day on May 5.

Second Work Day - April 21

This coming Saturday, April 21 from 9am to 4pm will be the second work day to prepare the site for the Sprouting Hope garden. Now that the main water line is installed, we'll be working to form the garden beds (70 of them!) and install the irrigation system in the garden. If time permits we'll also start mulching the garden paths.

The garden is 10,000 square feet so we'll need lots of hands! Grab your family & friends, bring a garden rake, some sunscreen, a picnic lunch and drinks and come on out for all or part of the day.

As of Wednesday, the forecast is showing a chance of rain late in the day so we're optimistic that we'll get a full day for gardening. Hope to see you there!

First workday is over

Thanks to everyone for helping to make the first work day successful. We've got our water line trenched in and connected to the main with a submeter, and we made a great start on laying out the garden on the ground (even though it hasn't been tilled yet). Next work day is April 21 when we will be forming up the beds, making a fence to keep the critters out and installing the irrigation system.

First Work Day April 14

This Saturday April 14 2012, we'll be holding our first work day to prepare the garden site. We will be working from 9am to connect to the water supply at the site in preparation for installing irrigation, and to install a fence to keep the deer, rabbits and groundhogs away. There will be a second work day on Saturday 21 when we plan to be forming beds and laying out the irrigation system. If you're able to help on either day, contact us or come out to the site and get your hands dirty.
